Hollow Core Doors

Lightweight and budget-friendly. Ideal for bedrooms and low-traffic areas where sound insulation is less of a concern.

Solid Core Doors

Heavier with better sound dampening. A great mid-range option for living rooms and home offices.

Solid Oak Doors

Premium quality with a beautiful natural grain. Perfect for period properties and high-end renovations.

Fire Doors

A fire door is a specially constructed door designed to resist fire and smoke for a specific period of time. Unlike standard internal doors, fire doors contain fire-resistant cores, intumescent strips, and specialist seals that expand when exposed to heat.

When installed correctly, fire doors:

• Slow the spread of fire between rooms
• Protect escape routes such as hallways and staircases
• Reduce the spread of smoke
• Give occupants more time to evacuate safely
• Help protect property and belongings

FD30 vs FD60 Fire Doors

FD30 fire doors are designed to resist fire for at least 30 minutes.

These are the most commonly installed fire doors in residential properties.

Typical uses include:
• Internal doors between rooms and hallways
• Doors leading to staircases in multi-storey homes
• Garage-to-house connecting doors
• Loft conversion doors

FD30 doors provide crucial protection in homes by allowing enough time for people to escape safely during a fire.

FD60 fire doors are designed to resist fire for at least 60 minutes.

They are typically used in buildings that require higher levels of fire protection.

Common locations include:
• Apartment buildings
• Commercial properties
• Plant rooms or boiler rooms
• Shared corridors or stairwells
• Buildings with higher occupancy

FD60 doors offer double the protection time, helping prevent the spread of fire in larger or higher-risk environments.

How Safe Are Fire Doors?

Fire doors are designed and tested to strict safety standards. When properly installed and maintained, they can:

• Contain a fire within one room
• Prevent flames and smoke spreading quickly
• Protect staircases and escape routes
• Provide up to 30 or 60 minutes of protection

This additional time can be life-saving, allowing families to evacuate and emergency services to respond.

How Effective Are Fire Strips?

Fire doors use intumescent strips, commonly known as fire strips, which are fitted into the edges of the door or frame.

These strips are extremely effective because they:

• Expand when exposed to heat
• Seal the gap between the door and frame
• Block flames and smoke from spreading
• Maintain the fire resistance of the door

In many installations, smoke seals are also included to prevent dangerous smoke from passing through before the heat activates the strips.

Without these strips, a fire door would not perform properly, which is why professional installation is essential.
